The History
From the mind of The Great Chairman Emeritus, Alva E. Kelley.
The Annual Holiday Football Pool (AHFP) tests the football knowledge, prediction skills and luck of those who take part in the contest. Beginning with the Bowl games around the Christmas Holiday and continuing all the way through the National Championship Game, all the major Bowl games are on the agenda. The Annual Holiday Football Pool does not use point spreads or any other criteria except winners and losers. Contestants pay a modest entry fee and in return they get the opportunity to participate in a long-standing family tradition to win some cash and get a couple great PPP publications.
The colorful history of the Annual Holiday Football Pool has its origins in the bi-annual meeting of the Yale-Cornell football teams at the historic Schoellkopf Field in Ithaca, NY. What started in the mid-1970’s as a family contest to pick the winner and total points of the Yale-Cornell game (for a bag of Snickers) evolved into its present day format and a much anticipated annual event. Every year, a letter (or web site!) is sent out to the members of the Compisi and Kelley clans, as well as close friends inviting them to join in the bowl picking festivities. For a small entry fee, participants would pit their luck against the unpredictable world of college football. Year in and year out, a wonderful camaraderie and playful competition was established between friends and family. Many a New Year’s Day was spent in front of multiple TVs trying to decipher who the Grand Champion would be. In the end, it really did not matter. A wonderful time was had by all!
