After Action Report – Jan 4

As a western New Yorker, we always are rooting for teams from the region to perform. The University of Buffalo’s performance today was inspired and showcased a college program that has consistently represented itself well.  Happy for them.

Saturday’s Games: Buffalo 26 Liberty 7

So I took a gander into the future of the AHFP – by future, I mean the next eight days. Our early jack rabbit has finally succombed to the pressure of AHFP leadership.  My good friend David Rubin has blown a gasket and relinquished his lead to Pilar Kelley and Ben Milano. It was a nice run David – every race needs a pace setter. But, as you know, pace setters rarely go all the way. Going into this year’s AHFP, we obviously had no idea how it would play out with the layers of the AHFP.  To all of your credit, you navigated the AHFP submission process with aplomb. But the real question would be how would the picks play out and impact the ultimate results.  From PPP’s data analytics team, we note that of the 68 contestants, 29 contestants have a team playing in the Orange Bowl (43%) and more interesting, only 12 have a team playing in the Cotton Bowl (18%). Additionally, of the AHFP player who have 15 wins or more (12), nine have at least one team left in the final four.  This means there is much left to be determined – at least at the top of the table.  On the bottom, not so much…The queen of awful college football prognostication will be the one and only Marissa “I am paying it Forward” Kelley.  God bless you for being awful. No drama on the bottom for sure. When you are bad, you are bad.  Congratulations.  Big Nana, Baby Nana, Big Pap and Baby Pap all love you so much!

So now we wait until Thursday to get back into things.   We can all catch out breath and root for our favorite contestant. BTW, if you haven’t paid yet, please get your $5 in ASAP: https://compisi.com/payment/  Thank you!

Sincerely,
The Chairman

  1. Dear Mr. Chairman,

As the zookeeper for the PPP AHFP Rochester North Chapter, I feel compelled to pass along our overdue, but most sincere thanks for your consistent updates and insights into this landscape changing 2024-2025 AHFP contest. The CFP Playoff system has obviously added a significant dynamic to how the end of the race to the AHFP Championship glory plays out.

As an example of that…and with a great amount of worthless self-pity…12 of the 13 Rochester North players picked the Oregon Ducks to defeat Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the CFP on NewYear’s day, and 8 of the 13 (including myself) had Oregon going on to win the Championship.

I have been having recurring nightmares since then. The dreams start with the Rochester North players dutifully practicing various Duck Calls for weeks prior to the game vs. OSU, in an effort to attract as much support for Oregon as possible. Well, the support certainly did come, with droves of Ducks jumping on the bandwagon. Alas, to our horror, the entire Ohio State team…and their fans…met those Ducks with brand new shiny Mossberg Gold Reserve 20-gauge shotguns, turning Oregon into just so much Peking Duck. The incendiary nature of the Hindenburg crash was nothing compared to the devastation the Buckeyes inflicted on those overrated and soft Ducks. “Ohhhhhh….the Duckanity!!”

As well as creating my night-sweats due to blind naivety, the Oregon-OSU game is a good example of the comments you made on your Friday morning comments regarding the NCAA money grabbing conference consolidations that occurred going into this season. There should be no arguing that Oregon is still a flashy but soft Pac-10 team, and Ohio State still carries the impressive combination of overall athletic talent and toughness associated with old-school Big-10 teams. To Rochester North, it was a very difficult but well-deserved lesson to learn.

Congratulations to the players at the top of the leaderboard going into the last four games of the 24’-25’ AHFP! With the bonus points that will be awarded for the CFP semifinals and championship game, there is still much drama and intrigue coming down the stretch. In realistic terms, it seems that the lone Rochester North player with a shot at championship glory would be our lovely and loving Ashley “Mom-Mom” Kelley. GOOOOO Ash!!

You’re the Best, Mr. Chairman. Thanks for all you do!
    Tim “Jim” Kelley

    1. Hello Tim “Jim” Kelley! So good to hear from you. I appreciate you navigating the technical issues with our blog comment functionality this year. I have been missing the word from the field this year. I will need to do a deep dive into the site architecture to figure out what is going on there. Regardless, I am a big fan of Peking Duck. Its quite delicious. And, if it comes at the expense of 300 Round Pond, I’d add in a spring roll and pork fried rice to go with it. You guys have been draining the PPP bank account for years – maybe sharing a little of the wealth isn’t a bad thing. Although, Ashley is having a good go of it with potential to secure some cash and Marissa is at least sucking us of a little cash this year. You guys just can’t help it. With all of that said, you know we love you and your family regardless of how much money you leach from us. Tough to lose when you don’t lose. I will be curious to see how the lessons learned this year will be applied next year when we do this all over again! All the best to you and the 300 Round Ponders.

      The Chairman
