After Action Report – Jan 1

Day Recap:  It started slowly and crescendoed with a magnificent game in the night cap. With the caveat that the ending was the stupidest thing I ever saw. Ole Miss destroyed a significant number of brackets by taking Georgia down but to get there, both teams put on s show of hard hitting, old school football.  If you want to see the hit of the year, take a look at the highlights of the Georgia QB  getting absolutely lit up by the Ole Miss LB just after releasing the ball on their way to a touchdown. I honestly can’t believe he got up – and the zebras didn’t throw a flag on the play either – which was astounding.  It seemed to be a legal hit but the sheer violence of it 99% of the time would draw the flag. BTW, Lane Kiffin can take his new job and stick where the sun don’t shine. He is a charlatan of the highest order.

Indiana continues to convince people that they are for real.  I have to admit, I have been reluctant to put my faith in the Hoosiers which may certainly be an historical bias but man, are they playing some football.  To embarrass Alabama like that on the national stage is truly making a “we are for real” statement – not that doing the same to Good-bye-O State didn’t do the same but I thought that might simply be a one-off.  I guess not! Do they have enough juice to go all the way?  I would actually love to see it.

I think the biggest issue to the above is that the Ducks are standing in the way of such a run.  They looked pretty darn good yesterday – and it wasn’t the offense that was impressive. That defense is something. Plus, they have the coolest uniforms in college football, if not all of sport!

As for our little game, well, it just got really interesting. While most of the herd chose Indiana and a slight majority chose Oregon, very few chose Ole Miss. Couple that with what happened to Ohio St, AHFP Nation got rocked. One of our new leaders Brent Totten could hear brackets busting all the way in Bermuda (you may want to be on the lookout for a tsunami given the magnitude of this earthquake). If you recall the order of operations for the new AHFP, the next two games (CFP Semifinals) are worth two (2) points each and the CFP National Championship is worth a mighty three (3) points. To put it to brass tax, if you had Georgia or Ohio St getting past the semis, you are out two points and if you had either of those schools going all the way, sorry kids, you are out a potential tally of five (5) points. Ouch!  I honestly cannot recall so much tumult in an AHFP – we love it.  It reminds me of that dude from the Allstate commercials – Mayhem.  I think we need to call him in for a commercial for the AHFP. This situation makes the next run of traditional bowl games that much more important.  If you can thrive in the next three games, maybe, just maybe you can still have a go at the money.  It is way too complicated for my Neanderthal brain to truly decipher.  I may need to get some professional analysis from Chairman Jr to help the old man out. Maybe the rumors of Brian Kelley’s demise may have been premature…God help us all.

Happy Friday to you all. If you have not sent your $5 entry fee in, please get that done so I don’t have to chase you down!  Thanks!!

Thursday’s Games:
Orange Bowl: Oregon 23 Texas Tech 0
Rose Bowl: Indiana 38 Alabama 3
Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss 39 Georgia 34

Sincerely,
The Chairman

  1. Mr. Chairman…..

I find it incredible that your update today included particular mention to Allstate’s Mr. Mayhem, who has been doing those very entertaining commercials for over ten years. Earlier today, and before reading your post, I have if from good authority, Adam Schefter, from ESPN and others, that Mr. Mayhem was spotted at the quarter-final games for both OSU vs. Miami on Friday night and Georgia vs. Ole Miss last night. Schefter went on to say that he was running around creating all kinds of continual chaos, and instead of his standard suit coat, was wearing a chartreuse T-Shirt that had “THE PPP AHFP ROCKS!!” emblazoned in bold black across the front. I kid you not!

That Schefter has his spies everywhere, and if he posts it, it must be true! In any case, unless you mind having a couple of baseball bats thrown through your front and back windshields, I think that Mr. Mayhem is ripe for the picking to do a gig for us. Go get him, sir!!

    Best of luck with that.
    Jim

    1. He’s not worthy of this pool, though his handiwork seems to be ever present this year. We’ll have to come up with our own character to play mayhem – and he or she will be cooler than that guy.

PPP AHFP does indeed rock! Thanks Jim/Tim!
      The Chairman
